Through an agreement with Levi Strauss & Co. in 1915, North Carolina's Cone Mills gained exclusive rights to manufacture Levi's iconic shrink-to-fit denim for all Levi's Lot 501 Jeans. This historical gentlemen's agreement is referred to as "The Golden Handshake".
As a celebration of this century long partnership, Levi's is producing a special Levi's vintage collection consisting solely of shrink-to-fit denim pieces. Their shrink-to-fit material is still only produced out of the Cone Mill's White Oak Plant. The Greensboro plant still uses decades old narrow selvedge looms.
For those that don't know, up until the late 1980s all of Levi's 501s were shrink-to-fit. Back then it was the norm, and now there seems to be a resurgence as younger consumers are seeing shrink-to-fit denim as novelty. If you sit in a bath in this denim it will shrink around your body, creating an extremely personalized and well fitted garment. Pictured above is some of the special Levi’s Vintage Clothing 1915 Collection, which is now available.
