Despite fierce competition in the New York leather industry, Sabine Spanjer and Kika Vilegenthart's KikaNY manages to stand out. The two linked up in 2009 to form the leather goods company out of a studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The studio is still home to the brand, where artists use their leather design savvy and craftsmanship to produce quality made to order leather goods.
Their product selection is vast, ranging from backpacks and duffel bags to suspenders and sandals. Having worked under Barbara Shaum for fifteen years, Kika has an arsenal of traditional techniques handed down from the renowned leather smith.
Materials and resources are carefully selected and pulled together from around the globe. Most of their tools derive from long-established suppliers in France and the UK. The high-end leather is sourced from Chicago, Italy, Belgium, and Spain and is put together by custom-built machines in NYC.
